On the 8th (U.S. local time), President Kim Chun-jin of the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation met Deputy Consul General Kwon Seong-hwan of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Los Angeles to discuss ways to expand K-food exports to the United States, and held a low-carbon diet 'Green Food Day' to reduce carbon emissions in the food sector. According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), food-related carbon dioxide emissions account for 31% of total greenhouse gas emissions. Accordingly, from 2021, for carbon neutrality in the food sector, the corporation has been working with 460 organizations in 9 countries at home and abroad, including 34 administrative and educational metropolitan governments and associations, organizations, and overseas companies, to promote a low-carbon diet that leaves no food made from eco-friendly local agricultural products. We are leading the campaign for 'Green Food Day'.
Following this, President Kim visited the office of U.S. House of Representatives Michelle Steele in California and received a letter of appreciation from Rep. Michelle Steele for contributing to the expansion of agricultural and fishery products exports to the U.S. and the development of Korea-U.S. economic relations. At the site, CEO Kim thanked Rep. Michelle Steele for his extraordinary affection and support for K-Food, and asked for cooperation to expand K-Food exports and to enact 'Kimchi Day' at the U.S. Congress level. did. And he said that he hopes to take the lead in realizing carbon neutrality by joining the low-carbon diet ‘Green Food Day’, a campaign to reduce carbon emissions at the food level.
Meanwhile, last year's kimchi exports to the United States reached a record high of $29 million thanks to the spread of the 'Kimchi Day' in the United States, starting with California.
